A Dream
a poem
So dreams the restless mind to stillness
While fearing the wretched ends
And therefore fearing the sleep
Needed to facilitate the dream
Finally succumbing to night’s depths
Pushing ahead through murky waters
Eyes finally closed to waking worries
Manifesting in fitful slumber
Wandering endlessly through unseen ends
Then winding corners inside buildings
Familiars and strangers together recline
Talking without thought or purpose
Some faces friendly to which I connected
But in what way, it was not apparent
All excitement, as if a reunion?
With no resolution or explanation
When I I was ready for home
I had forgotten my arrival
Wanting only to find the familiar thread
Through present and past intertwining
I awoke fearful to find no meaning
Unable to remove the masks
Worn in the archetypes’ masquerade
Hinting at the need for connection
I decided to trust the unconscious
A river meandering into slough
Merging then with deeper waters
Where I face leviathans, but live
Now, I no longer fear the quiet night
Knowing the dream will guide me
Where purpose diverges from the main path
A spur that leads to views unmapped
